Here is a few images that I have found that have that whimsical element to them, a weightlessness that I feel contributes to the ethereal.

Journey to Heaven

 

To me Heaven is somewhere spectacular, somewhere that has that air about it that makes it seem that it is not apart of the world as you. All these images above are what I would consider as 'Heavenly'; each image presents an idea of a journey, an adventure, paradise, somewhere you are free to explore freely without anything pulling you back. Anything is possible.

As I was flicking through the pages of this month’s issue of ELLE magazine I came across the 'First Look' Section. Beneath the title of 'Pretty Subversive' there it was, a swatch of fabric from the garment in the first image of this post. Instantly I was taken with it, its candy sweet colour and the detailed delicacy of the lace with the free standing appliqué flowers, jumped off the page at me, taking me to some dream land. I was just as captivated by the other designs from Erdem's S/S 13 collection, with its pretty colour palette and transparent, feather light fabrics flowing over the more substantial material of the garment, which if not coloured in an equally sugary tone would give it a dull quality but rather it is enhanced in a hazy way adding to the concept of ethereality.

Floating Reflections

 

Katerina Bodrunova

 

 

Bodrunova's photographs are breath taking. The model seems to be floating through space, weightless and unaffected from any other elements, you can almost see the motion of her movements in the water. Her hair and garments floating and wrippling like ribbons through the water. The composition of these shots also contribute greatly to the end result, her reflection is an extension of her, rippling on the water surface; delicate as if one sudden movement would shatter the illusion.

Yuji Hamada

The qualities present within these photographs by Yuji Hamada give out a heavenly vibe to the viewer. The way the sun gleams through empty space creating a misty haze transforms these typically urban settings into something out of this world.
